OUR HISTORY
The roots of The Foundry stretch back to 1976, when founder and present owner Craig Gutowski needed an efficient woodstove to heat his recently completed log cabin. Instead of buying one woodstove at retail he bought seven at wholesale pricing. The other six were quickly sold and a new business was born. Following a surge of interest in alternative fuel sources, the upstart business quickly grew to retail stove shops that prospered through the late 1970's and 1980's.
In 1984, weary of having to deal with dozens of suppliers for all the accessory needs of the business, Craig decided to start The Foundry as a one-stop supplier to hearth shops across Ontario. Distributing only accessories, The Foundry grew steadily through the 1980's under the wing of the retail business. In the 1990's The Foundry came into its own. With dedicated staff and facilities, it grew beyond accessories to become a true one-stop supplier meeting all the venting and appliance needs of the specialty hearth retailer.
